Associate Pastor of Discipleship, Serve and Community Life

Job Description

Good Shepherd is seeking a relational, visionary, and mission-driven leader to serve as our Associate Pastor of Discipleship, Serve and Community Life. This role provides leadership for adult discipleship, community engagement, and outreach, helping people take meaningful next steps in faith, belonging, and service.

The right candidate is a strong leader who can build systems, develop servant leaders, and create environments where people grow spiritually, build authentic relationships, and live on mission together. This person will oversee adult ministry pathways, community-building opportunities, and local outreach initiatives while helping cultivate a culture of discipleship across the life of the church.

  • Full-time, Salaried, Exempt Position

  • $90,000–$110,000 annually


Essential Responsibilities

  • ·Provide vision, leadership, and oversight for adult discipleship and community life

  • Develop clear pathways for adults to move from attending to belonging to serving

  • Lead and strengthen local serve initiatives and strategic community partnershipsRecruit, equip, and shepherd servant leaders across multiple ministry areas

  • Support pastoral needs through preaching, weddings, memorials, and pastoral care as needed

Discipleship & Community Life

  • Develop and champion a cohesive vision for adult discipleship aligned with the mission of Good Shepherd

  • Oversee Men’s, Women’s, Young Adults, Sharpies (55+), and Journey Groups ministries

  • Support ministry leaders through coaching, encouragement, and leadership development

  • Ensure adult ministries are aligned, healthy, and producing clear discipleship outcomes

  • Create meaningful connection points through retreats, gatherings, and ministry events

Serve & Outreach

  • Champion the church’s vision for serving the local community

  • Build and steward relationships with schools, nonprofits, shelters, and community partners

  • Lead service initiatives, compassion ministries, and outreach events throughout the year

  • Mobilize volunteers and servant leaders for local outreach opportunities

  • Support a defined level of international mission engagement and partner relationships

Leadership Development

  • Develop leadership pipelines and succession planning across ministry areas

  • Create systems for volunteer onboarding, ministry tracking, and follow-up

  • Oversee ministry budgets, calendars, and planning processes

  • Collaborate with Communications, Worship, Kids, Youth, and Care ministries to strengthen church-wide engagement

  • Share stories of life change and ministry impact with the congregation

Pastoral Support

  • Provide preaching support as scheduled

  • Officiate weddings, memorials, and funerals in alignment with church values and theology

  • Offer premarital support and pastoral care as needed

  • Assist with pastoral coverage during staff absences or high-demand ministry seasons

Organizational Structure

  • Reports directly to the Executive Director of Church and Preschool

  • Works closely with the EOS Team and ministry staff

  • Collaborates with servant leaders across adult ministry and outreach areas

  • Supports the overall mission and vision of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; seminary training and ordination encouraged

  • Pastoral ministry experience strongly preferred

  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills

  • Experience building volunteer teams and developing leaders

  • Ability to think strategically while executing ministry details effectively

  • Warm, relational presence with strong pastoral instincts

  • Alignment with the mission, theology, and values of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church

Job Description

Good Shepherd Lutheran Church is seeking a skilled Organist/Piano Accompanist to support our Traditional Worship Services. This individual will play a vital role in leading the congregation in worship through music, accompanying hymns, liturgy, and choir pieces with excellence and consistency. 

The right candidate is a gifted musician with a heart for worship, who is dependable, collaborative, and able to work closely with the Choir Director and Chancel Choir. This role supports both weekly services and rehearsals, helping create a meaningful and Christ-centered traditional worship experience. 

  • Part-time, Hourly, Non-Exempt Position 

  • $30–35/hour, up to 8 hours per week 


Essential Responsibilities

  • Provide organ and piano accompaniment for weekly Traditional Worship Services 

  • Support congregational singing, liturgy, and special music elements 

  • Collaborate with the Choir Director to prepare and rehearse musical pieces 

  • Accompany choir rehearsals and performances 

  • Maintain a high level of musical excellence and preparedness for each service 

Worship & Music Collaboration

  • Work closely with the Senior Pastor and Choir Director to plan and execute music for services 

  • Support the overall flow and tone of Traditional Worship 

  • Be flexible and responsive to worship service needs and adjustments 

  • Participate in rehearsals and service preparation as scheduled 

  • Remain present in the worship service after playing, participating fully in the sermon and worship experience, and engaging with others in community following the service 

Scheduling & Availability

  • Provide accompaniment weekly for Sunday Morning Worship and Thursday Evening Choir Rehearsals 

  • Coordinate with the Choir Director regarding planned absences 

  • Collaborate to ensure coverage is arranged when unavailable 

  • Support with Holy Week, Christmas Eve Services, and the occasional Saturday Memorial Service 

Organizational Structure

  • Works closely with the Senior Pastor and Choir Director 

  • Collaborates with the Senior Pastor and Creative Director as needed 

  • Supports the broader worship ministry of Good Shepherd 

Qualifications

  • Proficiency in both organ and piano performance 

  • Minimum 2 years experience accompanying choirs and congregational worship 

  • Strong sight-reading and musical adaptability 

  • Ability to collaborate effectively with worship leaders and Servant Leaders 

  • Dependable, punctual, and well-prepared

Interim Kids Ministry Director

Job Description

Our Interim Kids Ministry Director provides leadership and oversight for Good Shepherd’s Kids Ministry. This role focuses on ensuring the ministry continues to operate smoothly, Servant Leaders are supported and equipped, and children and families experience a safe, welcoming, and Christ-centered environment. 

This individual will prioritize stability and strong support for Servant Leaders while maintaining the ministry’s existing systems and rhythms. The right candidate is organized, relational, and passionate about helping children grow in their faith while creating a warm and inviting ministry environment for families. 

  • Part-time, up to 25 hours per week, $24–28 per hour

  • Interim, with the possibility of permanent


Essential Responsibilities

  • Oversee weekly GS Kids Ministry programming for nursery through elementary-aged children 

  • Ensure classrooms are appropriately staffed with trained Servant Leaders 

  • Maintain a safe, welcoming, and Christ-centered environment for children and families 

  • Ensure compliance with church safety policies and child protection procedures 

Servant Leader Leadership

  • Support, encourage, and communicate regularly with GS Kids Ministry Servant Leaders 

  • Coordinate Servant Leader schedules and fill last-minute needs when necessary 

  • Provide basic training and guidance to Servant Leaders 

  • Foster a culture of encouragement, teamwork, and spiritual growth among the ministry team

Sunday Morning Coordination

  • Ensure classrooms are prepared with curriculum, supplies, and materials 

  • Oversee check-in and check-out procedures for children and families 

  • Assist with classroom transitions and troubleshoot issues that arise during services

Curriculum and Programming

  • Implement the church’s selected curriculum 

  • Ensure Servant Leaders understand lesson plans and weekly activities 

  • Prepare lesson materials and supplies for Sunday programming 

Family Communication

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for parents regarding GS Kids Ministry 

  • Communicate important updates, schedules, and ministry events to families 

  • Welcome new families and help them connect with the ministry and church community

Administration

  • Maintain attendance records and Servant Leader rosters 

  • Order supplies and maintain classroom resources 

  • Coordinate background checks and onboarding for new Servant Leaders and nursery staff

Organizational Structure

  • Reports to the Executive Director of Church and Preschool 

  • Works closely with the Good Shepherd ministry staff 

  • Leads and supports GS Kids Ministry Servant Leaders and nursery staff 

Qualifications

  • Experience serving in children’s ministry or a related leadership role 

  • Strong organizational and communication skills 

  • Ability to recruit, encourage, and support servant leaders 

  • Comfortable working with families and children in a ministry setting 

  • Able to manage details and troubleshoot challenges on Sunday mornings 

  • Collaborative team player with a servant-hearted leadership style
