Kids Care Team Member
Job Description
Our Interim Kids Ministry Director provides leadership and oversight for Good Shepherd’s Kids Ministry. This role focuses on ensuring the ministry continues to operate smoothly, Servant Leaders are supported and equipped, and children and families experience a safe, welcoming, and Christ-centered environment.
This individual will prioritize stability and strong support for Servant Leaders while maintaining the ministry’s existing systems and rhythms. The right candidate is organized, relational, and passionate about helping children grow in their faith while creating a warm and inviting ministry environment for families.
Part-time, Hourly, Non-Exempt Position
$16.90/hour, 4–8 hours per week
Essential Responsibilities
Supervise and care for children during designated services and events
Engage children in age-appropriate activities, play, and simple lessons or crafts as needed
Monitor children closely at all times and never leave children unattended
Respond calmly and appropriately to childcare needs
Assist with setup and breakdown of childcare rooms before and after events
Safety & Supervision
Follow all church child safety policies, including background check and mandatory reporting requirements
Follow all check-in and check-out procedures without exception; no child is released to anyone other than the authorized parent or guardian
Report any incidents, injuries, or safety concerns to the Kids Ministry Director promptly
Maintain confidentiality regarding any family or child-related concerns
Family Communication
Greet parents and guardians at drop-off and give a brief update at pick-up, including how the child did and any incidents
Communicate respectfully and clearly with parents regarding their child’s time in care
Communicate promptly with the Kids Ministry Director regarding scheduling conflicts, supply needs, or concerns
Scheduling & Availability
The Table gatherings—as scheduled Sundays from 11:15am to 2:00pm
All Generations Journey Group gatherings—as scheduled Wednesday evenings from 6:00pm to 8:00pm
MomCo meeting days and times—2nd Saturdays of each month from 8:45am to 10:30am
Additional church events as scheduled, including evenings and weekends as needed
Confirm availability in advance for scheduled events and notify the Kids Ministry Director as early as possible if unable to attend
Complete the full duration of the assigned event, including cleanup
Organizational Structure
Reports to the Kids Ministry Director
Works alongside other Kids Care Team Members and ministry servant leaders (volunteers)
Supports the broader kid's and family ministry of Good Shepherd
Qualifications
Must be at least 18 years old
Experience working with children; babysitting, teaching, nannying, or ministry experience preferred
Ability to pass a background check
Warm, patient, and dependable demeanor
Strong communication skills with both children and parents
Treats every child with patience, kindness, and respect, regardless of behavior challenges
Models Christ-like character in tone, language, and actions at all times
